The Confederation of African Football CAF has approved the Paynesville-Samuel Kayon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia, Liberia as the host venue for the matchday 5 encounter between Sierra Leone and the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2023 African Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
CAF had earlier rejected Sierra Leone Football Association SLFA’s proposal to host the game at the newly constructed Southern Arena in Bo City, Southern Sierra Leone, due to lack of a standard Four-Star hotel in the country’s second city.
Sierra Leone lost the first leg 2-1 to Nigeria in Abuja as they sit 3rd in Group A with 5 points.
John Keister’s team need all three points against Nigeria to boost their chances of qualifying for the tournament, sheduled to hold in Cote d’Ivoire next year.
Nigeria top the group with 9 points, having won three and lost one. Jose Peseiro’s side need only 1 point from their two remaining fixtures to seal qualification.
Guinea-Bissau is second in group A with 7 points, while Sao Tome and Principe remain bottom of the group with only 1 point.
The match between Sierra Leone and Nigeria is scheduled to hold on Sunday June 18th by 5pm.
