2023 AFCON Qualifiers: “Why I invited Ahmed Musa”- Peseiro. “Super Eagles Are Beatable” S/Leone Coach Keister.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are scheduled to face Sierra Leone on Sunday, June 18th, with the aim of safeguarding their spot in the 2023 AFCON tournament

Head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has shed light on his decision to include Sivasspor forward Ahmed Musa in his Super Eagles roster to face Sierra Leone in the upcoming 2023 AFCON qualifiers,.

The Super Eagles captain has faced backlash from the Nigerian football community regarding his inclusion in the squad .

In response, Peseiro has emphasized that Musa brings valuable experience and leadership to the team, contributing to the overall team spirit.

His impact was evident during the previous match against Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in March, where he came on as a substitute and put pressure on the opponents’ defence with his crosses and control.

Speaking to the media, the former Sporting CP boss explained the rationale behind Musa’s selection, stating, “When building a team, you consider all situations and actions. I believe Musa can play for us, and we need his core experience, leadership, and command. His presence in the squad will create team spirit, organization, and a sense of unity.”

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Sierra Leone, knowing that a win or draw would secure their place in the 2023 AFCON tournament in Côte d’Ivoire .

Meanwhile, Sierra Leone head Coach, John Keister, is confident the Leone Stars can beat Nigeria.

“We will give our best, Super Eagles beatable”. – Said the coach.

Keister said his side won’t be intimidated by the Super Eagles.

“We know this is a match that we need to win, and therefore we have to be positive in our approach against a difficult Nigerian side – and we will definitely be,”

“We are a young group, but there is just this feeling that we can come here and get a result against Nigeria. It’s going to be a fight.” Keister expressed.

The Group A matchday 5 encounter will take place at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, Monrovia on Sunday, June 18 by 5pm Nigerian time.
