2023 AFCON: Super Eagles Drawn With Hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Two Guineas In Group A

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in Group A of the 2023 African Cup of Nations alongside hosts Cote d’Ivoire at the draw ceremony held in Abidjan on Thursday night.

Jose Peseiro’s team will have to deal with the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau once again in the tournament proper, while 2015 AFCON hosts Equatorial Guinea make up the final team in Group A.

Nigeria topped their group during the qualifiers ahead of Guinea-Bissau, Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe while the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire were drawn bye as tournament hosts.

The Super Eagles have won the AFCON title on three different occasions in 1980, 1994 and 2013, while emerging as runners up on four different occasions.

They are also the team with the highest number of third-place finishes having won the bronze medal on eight occasions.
