Adekunroye Defeats Bulgaria’s Nikolova In Repechage, Faces Kamalogi For Bronze, Olympic Qualification

Team Nigeria Wrestling sensation Odunayo Adekunroye has defeated Bulgaria’s Evelina Georgiev Nikolova 14-7 on Wednesday in a reperchage contest, giving her a chance to contest for a bronze medal and a ticket to the 2024 Olympic games in Paris.

Adekunroye, competing in the 57kg women’s category, lost her quarter-final bout to Moldova’s Anastasia Nich Ita by 10-0 on Tuesday and so, needed a win at reperchage to stand a chance to contest for Bronze.

The Nigerian wrestling star had earlier defeated World number four and Brazilian International Giullia Oliveira 10-7 in the first round bout, before going on to win United World Wrestling’s Sarita Sarita in the Round of 16.

Adekunroye, ranked 22nd in the world, will now face World number 12, Turkey’s Elvira Kamalogi this evening for a bronze medal and also to secure a place in next year’s Olympic games.
