AFCON: CAF Increases Prize Money By 40%, Winner Gets $7m

The Confederation of African Football CAF has increased the prize money for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire by 40% from the previous edition.

According to the Africa football governing body, the winner of the tournament will now receive a whooping $7 million, while the runner-up will go home with $4 million.

The financial rewards for the quarter-finalists and semi-finalists have also improved, with each final eight team receiving $1.3 million while each final four side will take home $2.5 million.

The significant raise in prize money is expected to increase the stakes and intensity of the competition.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe says a portion of the prize money will contribute to developing football and benefiting all stakeholders, as well as assisting member associations in carrying out their administrative duties.

The 2023 AFCON will kick off from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
