AFCON: Chukwueze and Lookman made us win Cote d’Ivoire – Peseiro

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, has heaped praises on Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze for their contributions in Nigeria’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cote d’Ivoire.

Nigeria’s captain William Troost-Ekong scored the decisive goal from a penalty in the 55th minute to give his team all three points at the 60,000 capacity Ebimpe Olympic Stadium in Abidjan.

The two wingers combined their offensive and defensive duties impressively in the encounter.

Peseiro commended both players for their contributions to the team’s win against the Elephants.

“We have a strategy on how we wanted to play the game against Cote d’Ivoire. I must praise the players for making it work,” the Portuguese tactician noted.

“Without the players it would have been difficult to carry out our plans. They are the ones who make everything work.

“Chukwueze and Lookman sacrificed a lot in the game. They worked hard to support the defence.

“They are players who love to attack but helped the defence a lot which contributed to our victory.”

The result leaves the Eagles second in Group A with four points, same with Equatorial Guinea, who earlier on Thursday, defeated Guinea-Bissau 4-2.

Nigeria needs a draw in their last match against the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau to guarantee their qualification as one of the top two teams from the Group.
