AFCON: Peseiro Explains Why Nigeria Couldn’t Score More Goals Against Angola

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has explained why his side was unable to score more goals against the Palancas Negras of Angolan in their quarter-final encounter of the African Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

A 41st minute strike from Ademola Lookman gave Nigeria’s Super Eagles a 1-0 victory over the Palancas Negras of Angola at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan.

During a post-match interview, the Portuguese tactician said the Angolans put more players at the back in the second half.

”They created more chances and they got the first corner, their ball also hit the post which represented the quality of their ( Angola) team.

“Once again we didn’t concede a goal and we scored once again, we created more chances, especially in the first half and we controlled the opponent.

“In the second half, we wanted to create more chances in the attack but the Angolans put more people in their defence.

“Angola also put more players on the attack but we could have scored more goals

But I congratulate my players for the well-deserved victory and also Angola for the good game”, he said.

The three-time African champions will continue their campaign in a semi-final clash against the winners of Saturday’s match-up between Cape Verde and South Africa in Bouaké on February 7th.
