AFCON Qualifier: Sports Minister To Grace Nigeria Vs São Tomé In Uyo

Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh will be present at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo when the Super Eagles of Nigeria take on São Tomé and Principe on Sunday in their final Group A match of the 2023 AFCON qualifier.

While speaking with his media, the minister acknowledged the necessity of his presence even though the game is a dead-rubber encounter. He promised to cheer the Super Eagles to victory, noting that a win will bring smiles to the faces of Nigerians.

The Super Eagles have already secured qualification for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations with a game in hand, topping Group A with 12 points after five games, two ahead of second-placed Guinea Bissau.

“The game is an opportunity for our darling Super Eagles to put a smile on the faces of millions of Nigerians who are constantly behind them. Even though it is a dead rubber encounter, this presents an opportunity to bring joy to the country, while we also test ourselves ahead of the AFCON”

“We also have the World Cup qualifying series ahead of us, thus, we cannot be complacent in our approach to the tie. I will cheer the team from the front and I enjoin all Nigerians to throw their weight behind them.”

Nigeria defeated their opponents 10-0 in the first leg of the encounter played in Morocco in June 2022.
