AFCON Qualifiers: Peseiro Explains Why Super Eagles Scored Six Past São Tomé and Príncipe

Head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Jose Peseiro, has been pleased with his players impressive performance in their 6-0 triumph over Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday.

The Super Eagles thrashed visiting Sao Tomé and Principe by six unreplied goals with Napoli forward Victor Osimhen bagging a hat-trick at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi and substitute Samuel Chukwueze scored the other goals to complete the rout for Jose Peseiro’s team.

Peseiro explained to journalists after the game that he demanded his players to not relax, but go for the kill against their opponent despite securing qualification for the AFCON.

“My players showed commitment, I pushed them to do well,” Peseiro said.

“Normally when you play against a team that is not strong, everybody feel relax.”

“In this game, they didn’t relax, they put up a spectacle from the first minute to the last, they were fighting. The players played a good game, we won 6-0 which was good.”

The Portuguese tactician was satisfied with the atmosphere inside the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

“I will like to thank the people of Akwa Ibom State for the honour bestowed on us.”

“The atmosphere inside the stadium was good and the fans were fantastic too. I want to say thank you to them. The pitch here is fantastic and the hotel too,” The 63-year-old tactician concluded.

The 2023 AFCON will hold in Cote d’Ivoire in January 2024.
