Reigning Nigeria Premier Football League champions, Enyimba FC, have been eliminated from the Africa Football League on Thursday night after they were thrashed 3-0 by Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco in the second leg quarter-final match in Morocco.
The three goals were scored in the first half as the North African side progressed to the semi-final with a 4-0 aggregate score having defeated the People’s Elephant by a lone goal in the first leg at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
Ayoub El Amloud opened the scoring for Wydad on the 4th minute after receiving a pass from teammate Yahya Jabrane.
Jamal Harkass doubled the lead for the Moroccans in the 38th minute before Attiat Allah made it 3-0 with just two minutes left before first half.
The second half failed to produce any goals as the home side controlled the game and ensured that their visitors exited the competition without scoring a single goal.
Finidi George’s team were also eliminated by Al Ahly Benghazi of Libya in the first preliminary round of the 2023 CAF Champions League.
Wydad Athletic Club will now face Esperance of Tunisia who triumphed over TP Mazembe of DR Congo in the other quarter final fixture.
Enyimba, now without any continental engagement, will now shift their attention to the domestic league.
