African Football League: Enyimba Battles Wydad In Q/Final, Gets Improved N529m As Participation Fee

Nine-time Nigeria champions Enyimba FC is set to face Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the quarter-finals of the inaugural edition of the Africa Football League.

Enyimba were seeded in Pot 1 alongside Simba SC of Tanzania, TP Mazembe of Congo DR, and Angola’s Atlético Petróleos in the draw conducted on Saturday September 2nd at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) office in Cairo, Egypt.

The tournament begins with a knockout format on Home and Away basis and is expected to kick off in October with quarter-final fixtures.

The reigning Nigerian League champions and the other seven participating clubs will each receive about N529 million Naira as the participation fee. This is a huge upgrade from the initial N200,000 stipulated by CAF for the participating teams.

The People’s Elephants will host Wydad Casablanca at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium (Nest Of Champions) in Uyo.

The opening ceremony of the African Football League including the first game will be held in Dar es Salam, Tanzania on the 20th of October, 2023.
The tournament is expected to run for an action-packed four weeks.
