Team Nigeria recorded a clean sweep six gold medals on Sunday night in different categories of female wrestling events at the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana.
Mercy Genesis kick-started the gold medal haul after defeating Mohamed Nada of Egypt 7-0 in the 50kg category to claim Nigeria’s first wrestling gold medal.
Debutant Christiana Ogunsanya produced a dominant display in the 53kg to win Nigeria’s second gold medal in the 53kg women’s wrestling event, beating Nogona Bakayoko of Cote D’Ivoire 11-0 to claim the gold.
Odunayo Adekuroye followed in the 57kg category by beating Zineb Hassoune of Morocco with a pinfal to win gold.
Team Nigeria was not done yet as veteran Blessing Oburududu defeated Blandine Nyeh Ngiri of Cameroon 14-4 in the 68kg category to add another gold medal to team Nigeria.
Hannah Reuben added more celebration to the already agog atmosphere after she defeated Amy Youin of Ivory Coast in the 76kg categories while Kolawole Omolayo was unstoppable in the 62kg event to confirm Nigeria’s dominance in wrestling on the continent.
