African Super League: Enyimba Gets N200m Participation Largesse, Winner Receives N920m

Reigning Nigeria league champions, Enyimba FC, will earn $2.5m (N200m) for participating in the inaugural African Super League, which kicks off next month across Africa with eight teams participating.

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, is expected to conduct the draw for the continent’s most prestigious clubs invited for the tournament, on Saturday, September 2 in Cairo, Egypt.

The eight participating teams will be placed into two groups with the top two teams on the standings at the end of the group fixtures qualifying for the semi finals.

The overall winners of the competition will go home with the prize money of $11.5m (N920m).

Other participating clubs for the maiden edition of the African Super League include Al Ahly of Egypt, TP Mazembe of Congo DR, Esperance of Tunisia, Mamelodi Sundowns and Petro Atletico of Angola.

Wydad Casablanca of Morocco and Simba SC of Tanzania complete the list.

Nine-time Nigeria champions Enyimba remains Nigeria’s only club to have won the CAF Champions League on two occasions in 2003 and 2004.
