Alhassan Yusuf replaces injured Ndidi as Iheanacho still hopeful of AFCON

Royal Antwerp midfielder, Alhassan Yusuf will replace injured Wilfred Ndidi in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 African Cup of Nations.

Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi is said to have withdrawn from the Super Eagles squad, citing injury ahead of the tournament.

Ndidi missed Leicester City’s 4-1 home victory against Huddersfield Town on Monday due to the injury.

Yusuf, earlier named on the 40-man provisional list will now take his place in the team.

The 23-year-old is now expected to link up with the team in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday (today).

The talented midfielder is yet to be capped by the Super Eagles.

Meanwhile, latest update from the Nigeria Football Federation is that Iheanacho is ‘hopeful to join the team before the Africa Cup of Nations commences’. 

The Super Eagles striker has been rated as doubtful for the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire due to an undisclosed injury he is nursing at the moment. 

The Super Eagles, under the guidance of manager Jose Peseiro, are holding a one-week training camp in Abu Dhabi, capital city of the United Arab Emirates.
