Nigerian sprinter, Oluwatobi Amusan on Sunday set a new African women’s indoor record at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston, clocking 7.75 seconds in the 60 meters hurdles.
This performance in Boston beats her previous record of 7.77 seconds set in Kazakhstan at the Astana Indoor Meet in January.
However, despite setting the new record, she finished second behind USA’s Tia Jones, who finished first with a time of 7.72 seconds, while Bahama’s Devynne Charlton came third with 7.76 seconds.
For the first time in history, four women broke 7.85 in one race as Masai Russell took fourth in 7.84.
In 2022, Amusan became the first Nigerian to win a World Athletics Championship gold. She also broke the women’s 100m hurdles world record en route to that triumph.
