Adeshina Zainab, Nigeria’s only survivor, failed to qualify for the 2024 Olympics after losing to Kaivo-Oja Pihla of Finland in the women’s 50kg today at the ongoing 2nd World Boxing Olympic Qualification Series in Bangkok, Thailand.
Zainab lost by split decision (1-4) to her Finnish opponent.
Earlier on, Mbata Patricia’s dream of participating in the Paris 2024 Olympic Boxing Tournament also came to an end.
The Nigerian suffered a points decision loss to Mexican Ortiz Citlalli Vanessa in the women’s 75kg class in Bangkok.
These latest loses confirm the failure of all four Nigerian pugilists at the Qualification Tournament in Thailand to pick an Olympic ticket.
Team Nigeria’s preparation has been tainted by controversies, with the boxers reportedly paying their way to the Thai qualifying.
The Qualifying tournament ends today.
It should be noted that, in September, 2023, three Nigerian boxers had booked their spots at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after winning their bouts in the final of the Africa Olympic Boxing qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal.
