CAF CC: Rivers United is Psychologically Prepared To Win Club Africain – Eguma

The Technical Adviser of Rivers United Football Club, coach Stanley Eguma is optimistic that his team is psychologically ready for victory over Club Africain of Tunisia in their third Group C fixture of the CAF Confederation Cup.

After suffering a 1-2 defeat to Dreams FC of Ghana in their second game, the Pride of Rivers will need maximum points from this encounter, for them to boost their chances of qualifying from the group.

“It’s a big match, considering the pedigree of the two teams. We’re prepared, knowing they are also a good team, having won their last two games. But we’re itching to make sure that we win our third game because we lost the second match which makes it very important to win this one, for us to be in contention (to qualify from the group).” Eguma said

“We worked hard for this game and believe we’re ready for a good result. The team is psychologically ready for the game and the players are rearing to go. The players are in high spirit and ready to give their all.

“The technical crew has done a lot and the management has also done well so we envisage a good game tomorrow and expect a victory.” The CAF-licenced tactician concluded.

Meanwhile, Rivers United Captain, Nyima Nwagua has called on his teammates to begin the encounter on a strong note, while also converting scoring opportunities presented to them.

“No two games are the same, but for Rivers United to stand well on the log, we have to score goals and we’re prepared to do so.

“The last game we played (vs Dreams FC of Ghana), we started late but when we play at home, it is a different ball game. We need to start early and also score early as we’ve learnt our lessons from the previous game (vs Dreams FC).

“We’ve played North African oppositions before, we have this game at home and we understand their antics but we’re focused as the most important thing is for us to win.
We have to get things done at the right time and also convert our chances.” Nyima Nwagua emphasized.

The game is billed to hold on Sunday, December 10 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Rivers United has won just 2 of their last 6 matches across all competitions.

However, the Pride of Rivers are unbeaten in their last 12 home games in all competitions after losing 0-2 to Young Africans of Tanzania in the quarter-final of last year’s CAF Confederation Cup tie in Uyo.

Club Africain is on a 7-match winning streak in all competitions.

The Tunisian giants have lost just 1 of their last 14 games across all competitions.
