CAF Champions League: Remo Stars Knocked Out On Penalties To Ghana’s Medeama On Home Turf

Remo Stars FC have crashed out of the 2023 CAF Champions League after losing on penalties to Ghanaian Premier League champions Medeama SC on Sunday at Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne.

The Sky Blue Stars narrowly lost first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary roundAfter 1-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium in Ghana, and so, needed two unreplied goals in the second leg to secure passage to the next round.

After a scoreless first half, Remo stars broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute through an own goal, as the game ended 1-0 in favor of the host but tied 1-1 on aggregate.

The game headed straight into penalty kicks but Remo Stars could only convert two of their spot kicks while Medeama SC converted 3 as it ended 2-3 in favour of the Ghanaians after shootout.

For the second consecutive season, Remo Stars has failed to advance past the first preliminary round of a CAF Inter-Club Competitions.

Last year the team was eliminated by FAR Rabat of Morocco in the first round of the CAF Confederation Cup and have now lost out again to Medeama SC of Ghana.

Medeama SC will face Horoya of Guinea in the second round of the qualifier.
