All three football clubs that have qualified to represent Nigeria in the CAF inter-club competitions have met the requirement to have a women’s football club.

The African Football governing body in 2022 informed all member associations about the new requirement for women’s football that teams intending to participate in the CAF inter-club competitions must have a minimum of one women’s first team participating in a competition sanctioned by the Member Association (NFF).

The Nigeria Football Federation on its part had educated clubs on the new development in February 2023 that clubs seeking to compete in CAF inter-club competitions are required to have women’s clubs.

Enyimba International are 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League champions and has Abia Angels, a women’s team plying their trade in the Nigeria Women’s Football League while Remo Stars who finished second have completed a 100% takeover of Lakeside Women’s team. Lakeside – currently playing in the NWFL Championship (Second Division) were knocked out in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Women’s Federation Cup.

Rivers United who will participate in the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup have Rivers Angels owned by the State government.

The two finalists in the 2023 Federation Cup where the winner picks the second CAF Confederation Cup ticket will also have a female team to be able to meet up. Bendel Insurance already have Edo Queens and so, meets up with the requirements but the same cannot be said of Rangers International.
