Former Nigeria league champions Rivers United began their journey in this season’s CAF Confederation’s Cup on an impressive note after playing out a goalless draw against Burkina Faso’s Etoile Filante De Ouagadougou on Sunday night in the capital city of Cote D’Ivoire, Yamoussoukro.
The Pride of Rivers joined the competition in the second preliminary round after they were drawn bye by the African football governing body, due to their decent performances in recent CAF club competitions.
Etoile Filante, on their part, defeated Casa Ziguiqor of Senegal in the first preliminary round to progress to the second round.
In a closely contested encounter, the CAF Confederation’s Cup 2nd preliminary round 1st leg match between Rivers United and Etoile Filante De Ouagadougou concluded with either team managing to find the back of the net.
Despite both sides pushing for the elusive goal, the final whistle blew with the scoreline ending 0-0.
Rivers United will host the second leg of the tie at the Adokie Amasiamaka stadium in Port Harcourt in a fortnight.
