Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC has arrived Nigeria for the second leg encounter of the CAF Champions League preliminary round against Remo Stars.
The reigning Ghanaian league champions left Accra International Airport with a chartered flight early Saturday morning.
They arrived at the Murtala International Airport in Lagos around 9:15 am and then headed straight to Ikenne in Ogun State where the match will be played.
The Tarkwa-based club won the first leg 1-0 in Ghana and will need a draw to secure qualification to the next round.
The head coach of Medeama SC Evans Adotey, while speaking to journalists at the Accra International Airport, acknowledged the difficulties of Sunday’s encounter but remained confident about his team’s chances of scoring.
“So far, we have watched the video of the first game and corrected our mistakes with the video analyst.
On the pitch, we are dealing with our aerial ball abilities, picking second balls, and working on our direct play as well as mapping out strategies to adopt for Sunday.”
We have what it takes to qualify; what we need is to go in there with the right mental toughness to be able to withstand what would be thrown at us for 90 minutes.”
“We would not have it easy in Nigeria; physically, they were better, however, that would not be the case in Nigeria. We’re going to score because if we don’t, they will score,” Adotey said.
The Sky Blue Stars of Ikenne will need two unreplied goals to see them through to the next round. However, Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, while speaking to Remo Stars media, was optimistic about his team’s chances of progressing to the next stage.
“We are working towards qualifying for the next round of the competition.”
“We’ll do everything humanly possible to be in the next round of the CAF Champions League.” Ogunmodede said.
The match will be played at Remo Stars stadium in Ikenne on Sunday August 27th by 4pm Nigerian time.
The winner over two legs will face Horoya of Guinea in the second round of the qualifier.
