Confederation Cup: CAF Approves Amiesimaka Stadium As Rivers United Home Ground

The Confederation of African Football CAF on Wednesday has approved the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt to host the CAF Confederation’s Cup 2nd preliminary round 2nd Leg fixture between Rivers United and Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso.

Rivers United were barred from using the ground for their Confederation Cup games as it didn’t meet the required standards to host international matches.

The former Nigerian champions played all their home games in the group stage of the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

The Pride of Rivers will finally return to play in front of their home fans as the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium have finally met CAF’s requirements and so consequently got CAF’s approval to host the preliminary round in Port Harcourt.

Stanley Eguma’s side will face Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso in the first leg of the 2nd preliminary round of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup on September 17th in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.

The return fixture in Port Harcourt is scheduled to hold on the weekend of 29th September – 1st October 2023.
