Dream Cup: Future Eagles Trashed 6-1 By Japan

Nigeria’s U-16 male football team, the Future Eagles on Friday made it two defeats in two matches following a scandalous 6-1 loss to host Japan at the ongoing 2023 International Dream Cup Championship in Fukushima.

Benjamin Kumashiro scored a brace while Shuto, Hamasaki, Sekiguchi and Shima netted the other goals for the home side.

Alatan Azuka got Nigeria’s only goal in the encounter.

After an opening day 2-1 defeat to USA, Japan rekindled their hope of winning their sixth title, with a comprehensive victory over Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Netherlands continued their impressive form with a 3-0 win against USA to maintain their lead on the table.

The Future Eagles, led by coach Haruna Ilerika, narrowly lost 1-0 against Netherlands in their opening match on Thursday.

They will battle USA in their final match of the competition on Sunday.

“The 🇳🇬Future Eagles buckle under extremely wet conditions in their second group game of the Dream Cup in Fukushima.

“Alatan Azuka got Nigeria’s only goal.

“They face the 🇺🇲United States in their next game,” Nigeria Football Federation, NFF said on Friday after the match.

This is the seventh edition of the International Dream Cup, an age-restricted football competition that is organized annually by the Japan Football Association (JFA).

It is held at the J-Village Stadium from May 31 to June  4, 2023. Japan has been crowned champions on five occasions.
