Enyimba 9, Rangers 7, Heartland 5: Past NPFL Champions Since Inception

Enyimba claimed a record-extending ninth Nigeria Premier League title following a 1-1 draw against Rivers United on Sunday June 11 in the final fixture of the NPFL Super Six playoffs at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.

The People’s Elephant, founded in 1976, have won nine NPFL titles which is the most won by any Nigerian club since the inception of the Nigeria Premier League in 1972.

Rangers International of Enugu is the next most successful league champions with seven Nigerian league titles, winning their first in 1974.

Iwuanyanwu Nationale, now renamed Heartland FC of Owerri have become Nigerian champions on five occasions, winning four consecutive league titles in it’s most successful era from 1987 to 1990.

Kano Pillars are four-time Nigerian champions winning their first league crown in 2008 before winning three successive league titles between 2012 through 2014.

No winner was assigned in the 2018 and 2019-20 seasons as those league seasons were inconclusive.
