Enyimba and Remo Draw 2-2 In Super Six Opener

Eight-time Nigerian champions Enyimba FC played out a 2-2 draw with Remo Stars on Saturday June 3 in the opening match of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Super Six Playoff at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Lagos.  

The first half ended in a goalless draw following a superb performance from both teams, as they failed to capitalise on their chances created.

Head coach of Remo Stars, Daniel Ogunmodede made two swift changes just eleven minutes into the second half as Dayo Ojo and Adams Olamilekan replaced the duo of Seun Odunsi and Ifeanyi Anaemena.

Adiele Eriugo scored the opener for The People’s Elephant in the 60th minute, after receiving a pass from Chukwuemeka Obioma.

Substitute Junior Lokosa, a former NPFL top scorer, equalised for Remo on 77 minutes after some persistent pressure from the Sky Blue Stars.

Just over a minute later, the centre referee awarded a penalty to Enyimba after Mbaoma was fouled in the box. Emeka Obioma converted from the spot on the 81st minute to give the former African champions a 2-1 lead.


Captain of Remo Stars Nduka Junior, who is also good in free kicks, scored a superb free kick in the 93rd minute of the match to draw level for Remo, 2-2 it ended.

Enyimba will face Lobi Stars on Monday June 5 in their second fixture, while Remo Stars will battle the defending champions Rivers United, same date.
All matches will  be played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
