Nigeria’s boys and girls U18 basketball teams have qualified for the quarter-finals of the African U18 basketball championship ongoing in South Africa.
The Nigerian girls’ team secured their quarter-final spot as one of the best third-placed teams after a hard-fought group stage.
Their qualification sets up a tough encounter against against Egypt on Wednesday in Pretoria.
The boys are also through to the quarter-finals after defeating Uganda 72-61 in their third group game. They will next face Mali.
It is the first time that two Nigerian teams would get into the quarter finals at that level.
Two teams are expected to represent Africa in the FIBA U18 World Cup scheduled to take place in Switzerland.
