FIBA To Sanction Uganda and DR Congo After Their Withdrawal From Lagos Qualifiers

The Federation International Basketball Association (FIBA) has announced that they were notified by the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association and the Basketball Federation of Democratic Republic of the Congo about their decision not to travel to Nigeria to participate in the 2023 FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament.

The tournament is scheduled to hold at the Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria from Monday 14th August with eight participating countries which includes host nation, Nigeria, Cameroon, Tunisia, Senegal, Mali and Guinea.

According to the statement the World Basketball will investigate and assess the matter to determine any potential disciplinary measures.

Group A of the 2023 FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament will now be played with three countries comprising of hosts Nigeria’s D’Tigers, five-time champions Senegal and Mali.

Group B will be played with three teams, reigning Afrobasket champions Tunisia, Cameroon and Guinea.

The teams from each group will challenge each other in a single round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Final Phase, after the Group Phases.
