Finidi, Amunike Likely Replacements As NFF Demand Cut On Peseiro’s $70,000 Monthly Salary

Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro may have to take a significant pay cut to remain in charge of the team.

Peseiro’s contract is up at the end of the month, and while he continues to insist he wants to win the Nations Cup with Nigeria, the NFF are broke and are being suffocated by the weight of his $70 000 per month wages.

It is so bad that his Nigeria assistants, including former internationals Finidi George and Ike Shorunmu, were asked to alternate games, so only one would need to be paid. Worse, Peseiro has been limited to calling up just 19 players based abroad per squad.

The NFF has struggled to pay his monthly stipends and the Super Eagles have also struggled to make impact under his tutelage.

So far, it is unclear whether the NFF will keep him, although sources say he may be asked to take a significant wage cut to stay on.

If he is let go, the NFF are looking at local replacements, with Emmanuel Amunike and Finidi the front runners.

The Portuguese was appointed in May 2022.

The Super Eagles booked their place at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after recording a 3-2 victory against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone on Sunday.

The team’s next assignment is against Sao Tome and Principe in September.
