As part of their build up ahead of the forthcoming CAF confederation cup tie against Etoile Filante of Burkina Faso in September, Rivers United played a slim 2-1 victory against visiting Supreme Kings academy at the Adokieye Amiesimaka stadium Igwuruta port Harcourt.
United approached the game with the intention of scoring many early goals but met a stiff challenge from the academy boys who conceded just a goal in the first half.
Coming back from the break, Supreme equalised with a powerful strike from Collins Okoye who got the assist from play maker and former under 17 invitee Emmanuel Chidi Jnr to level the game at one all. However the 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League champions dug deep to close the game 2-1 at full time.
Reacting after the match, technical adviser of Rivers United Football Club coach Stanley Azunda Eguma praised the quality of the game posed from the academy boys while noting that his men are battle ready for their continental tie in a few weeks time.
In a brief chart after the game, the President and chief supporter of Supreme Kings Academy – Umuhia, Snr. Anaeto Samuel Chukwuma, commended his team for their display of confidence and professionalism, nothing that Rivers United is a continental team with so much respect.
Snr. Chukwuma used the opportunity to call on other NPFL cludsides to play friendly matches of this magnitude with a view to discover new talents in replacement of ageing ones.
Supreme Kings academy recently defeated Heartland Football Club of Owerri by 2 goals to one but lost to Rangers International by a lone goal in another friendly.
