Former Nigeria Premier Football League side Heartland FC has been involved in an accident on their way to Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State, for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT Pre Season Tournament.
The club, in a statement on Friday, said the accident occurred at Umunna, near Okigwe, Imo State, and that there were no fatalities.
According to the club’s spokesperson, Tunde Liadi, some players and officials who sustained varying degrees of injury received first-aid treatment at a nearby facility and will continue their treatment in the state capital.
The team’s bus, in an attempt to dodge an oncoming vehicle, collided with another stationary vehicle from another accident.
The parked vehicle had reportedly been involved in another accident.
Meanwhile, there are unofficial reports that coach Christian Obi, the man who led them last season, passed on from the accident.
