If I’m returning any money, I’ll return it to football charity. In fact, I will double it – Davido replies Pinnick

Award-Winning Nigerian afrobeat singer David Adeleke popularly known as Davido threw a dig at former NFF president Amaju Pinnick after the football administrator accused him of refusing to perform at an event in Warri, Delta State, despite being paid an excess of $94,600.

The former Nigeria Football Federation president, Amaju Pinnick on Friday called out the Afrobeat singer for refusing to show up during Warri Again festival despite being paid $94,600 (about 72 million naira) and the organisers booking a private jet for him for $18,000, in a video which went viral on social media

Pinnick said the organisers had to shop for another artiste, Shallipopi as the replacement.

“We paid Davido $94,600 on the 6th of April. We paid $18,000 for his plane.

“If he says he’s a big boy, we will tell him we are bigger than him.

“I’m not joking. So, while he was playing his games back and forth, we decided to hunt to find another artiste, Shallipopi.

“You see, when people say they are big, I’m amazed. Is Burna Boy not the biggest artiste in Nigeria today? Burna Boy is half Itsekiri. Burna Boy’s paternal grandmother is Itsekiri. So, he’s bigger than him (Davido).

Is there anyone bigger than RMD in the acting industry? Or someone bigger than Ali Baba in the comedy industry?

“We have stars aplenty in Warri. Nobody is bigger than Warri,” he said.

While responding to the allegation, Davido said he would not return the money Mr. Pinnick claimed to have paid adding he would rather double the amount and give it to a football charity organization.

“If I’m returning any money, I’ll return it to any football charity organization. In fact, I will double it,” Davido wrote on his Instagram handle.

He described Mr Pinnick as a ‘dream crusher’ who has crushed the dreams of many Nigerian footballers because of his greed.

“Mr Dream Crusher. Imagine how many Nigerian footballers have had their dreams crushed because person one lives for Ikoyi by force,” the artiste said in colloquial terms.

The multiple award-winning star however apologised to his fans in Warri, promising to show up in the city when he performs live his song “Timeless”.

“To my lovely fans in Warri that spent their hard-earned money to come out apologies that you had to experience this. I was not going to be physically able to make it and this had been communicated to ‘them’ for a longgggg while now I mean MONTHS ago but for reasons best known to them, they continued to promote the show using my name. It’s a shame. But especially for my fans out there, don’t worry, you know I gotta bring Timeless to Delta State. We will do it proper, bigger and better!”

“Nobody can stop me from performing anywhere in Nigeria… Warri I will see you soon,” he wrote.
