I’m gonna take away his best attributes and nullify him – AJ breaks down how he’ll beat Deontay Wilder

British Nigerian former World Heavyweight Champion, Anthony Joshua believes he has the strategy ready to defeat Deontay Wilder.

AJ, late Saturday night dropped Finnish opponent, Robert Helenius with a devastating seventh-round knockout punch to secure his 26th professional win.

The fight looked largely unconvincing as Joshua failed to excite the O2 Arena crowd who booed him during the contest.

The 33-year-old former heavyweight world champion finally landed a devastating right hand punch which knocked out the veteran Finland fighter and ultimately ended the contest.

AJ is now looking forward to a showdown bout with another fallen star Deontay Wilder for a possible January date in Saudi Arabia.

Just like Joshua, the Bronze Bomber is rebuilding his career after surrendering his belt to Tyson Fury in an enthralling trilogy.

However, the British Nigerian who already has three defeats on his record, is confident he has what it takes to beat Wilder, who possesses one of the most powerful punches in boxing history.

AJ boasted about his tactics should he step into the ring with the American: “This is a game of chess.

“I’m gonna take away Wilder’s best attributes.

“I’m not gonna stand there with my chin in the air and say, ‘Hit me.’

“I’m gonna nullify him. It will be very challenging for him for sure.”

Anthony Joshua celebrated his laboured triumph over Helenius with a crude gesture inside the ring before jumping out to take a sip of Conor McGregor’s pint.

The Watford boxer then took a swipe at the supporters inside the O2 who booed him but insisted it had no impact on his performance.

“Not necessarily, I think they don’t understand it is competitive boxing.

“I was watching certain fights tonight and they didn’t look as exciting as I thought they would.

“Were they booing me or Helenius? That is the question, who were they booing?”

The reporter then suggested that fans wanted a quicker knockout.

AJ resoonded with a shrug: “Have any of them ever boxed before?”

Joshua was also asked if he was happy with his performance.

“That is for my coach [Derrick James], I don’t really rate my performances, whatever the coach thinks.

“We can go back to the drawing board and I know there is a lot of things we can improve on.

“I felt better than I did in April [versus Jermaine Franklin] and that is the main thing.”
