It Aims To Improve Our Coaches – Eguma, Akunna As BERACKIAH Coaching Clinic Begins Sept. 25 In Port Harcourt

Grassroots football coaches in Rivers state and beyond will now have the opportunity to improve their knowledge of the game when the BERACKIAH grassroots football coaching clinic 2023 commences in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

The clinic is scheduled to hold from September 25th to September 29th, 2023 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Elekahia, Port Harcourt.

The chairman of the Local Organising Committee, who is also the vice chairman of Rivers Football Coaches Association, coach Raphael Akunna, says the clinic is aimed at improving the tactical knowledge of grassroots coaches. He however, expects grassroots coaches from the hinterlands to benefit more from the program.

“Rivers Football Coaches Association deemed it fit that we have a coaching course to train our coaches because coaching is dynamic.

“Things change everyday and we need to put in our best. We intend doing that so that coaches will benefit. And not only for coaches of Rivers Football Coaches Association, we intend having people from other states especially the local government areas where we have local coaches that are not updated with the coaching trends.

So, we want to bring them to come and learn so that they can impart on their players which will positively affect the football in Nigeria and Rivers state.” Akunna noted.

The chairman of Rivers Football Coaches Association (RFCA), Stanley Eguma, stated that the grassroots coaches will be their major focus since they are the ones that fish out the majority of football talents.

“The grassroots is the main area of our focus because footballers are gotten from the grassroots and if the grassroots does not have the line put in place to discover the talents, it becomes counterproductive.

“Like one of our neighbours used to say, it is better that the grassroots do not have a coach than to have a bad coach. We want to educate those coaches that are fishing out those players from the grassroots. We want to put them in line and give them the right coaching methodology.” The Rivers United gaffer noted.

CEO of BERACKIAH International, Mr. Nwigwe Wonders Nduka, confirmed his organisation’s approval by the Nigeria Football Federation while also expressing the need for a formal football coaching training.

“BERACKIAH International had the approval from the Nigeria Football Federation three years ago to come into grassroots training of coaches because we discovered over the years, if you go into the communities, you will see football teams everywhere in the streets and somebody is with a whistle gathering ten players, twenty players with no formal training.” explained Nwigwe Wonders.

High profiled instructors expected at the clinic include coach Kim Ronningtad – a UEFA A liscenced coach from Norway, Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma, who is also a CAF instructor, coach Edwin Okon – the head coach of Rivers Angels and CAF Instructor, and coach Caleb Esu – a CAF A certified instructor.

Registration fee for the clinic is N40,000 per individual.

The BERACKIAH football coaching clinic is sponsored by the Rivers state government.
