Videos of Josè Mourinho giving away his UEFA Europa League silver medal to a kid after the 2023 Uefa Europa League final in Budapest has elicited a lot of reactions.
Mourinho lost his first ever European cup final in six attempts after Sevilla defeated Roma on penalties to clinch a record-extending 7th Europa League title on Wednesday May 31st in Budapest.
After the medal presentation, the Portuguese tactician was seen giving away his silver medal to a kid in the stands.
This is not the first time that the special one has exhibited such behaviour.
In August 2, 2015, as Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho threw his Community Shield runner-up medal to a young Arsenal fan after a defeat to Arsenal at Wembley.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain grabbed a first-half winner for the Gunners and Mourinho was not well pleased.
The Portuguese coach did not shake hands with his counterpart Arsene Wenger after Arsenal collected their medals and gave away his own prize to the delight of one young Aresnal supporter.
In August 2017 as a Manchester United manager, his side lost the UEFA Super Cup 2-1 to Real Madrid in Skopje through goals from Casemiro and Isco, with a late strike from Romelu Lukaku, which was not enough to avoid defeat.
Mourinho again, gave his Uefa Super cup runner-up medal to a young Manchester United supporter.
And the Portuguese coach said he felt it would mean more for a young supporter to have it than it would to him.
“Look, sometimes even when I win I don’t keep the medals so imagine when I lose?” he said.
“For me, the medal would go to some place in my house and for that kid it is the moon.
“For that kid, it is for sure something that he is going to keep and to remember.
“It was a little kid with a Man United shirt – I have no idea where he comes from.
“But I think for the kid it is something he will never forget. For me, medals – I repeat – when I win, they don’t mean much. Imagine when I lose!”
THE SPECIAL ONE DOESN’T LIKE TO BE SECOND.
