Relegated from the Premier League last season, Both Kano Pillars and Kastina United have returned to the Nigeria Premier League NPL after being relegated from league last season.
Going into the final Group A fixtures, Pillars were on 6 points and needed to avoid defeat against Kastina United to pick one of the Northern Conference’s tickets irrespective of the other game’s result.
Meanwhile, Kastina United on 3 points needed an outright win of at least 2 goals over Kano Pillars to secure qualification to next season’s NPL or a point in the game while hoping EFCC who were also on 3 points lose against DMD FC.
Kastina United did their part by defeating Kano Pillars 1-0 at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium with Pillars captain and veteran Nigerian midfielder, Rabiu Alli receiving a red card the 57th minute of the encounter.
In the other Group A game played at the Ogwashi-Uku stadium between EFCC FC and DMD FC, the crime fighter’s team who needed at least a one nil win to progress lost 2-0 to DMD FC.
The results from both matches meant both Sai Masu Gida and Kastina United have booked their passage to next season’s Nigeria Premier League with 6 points apiece.
Kano Pillars, having a superior goal difference, finished top of the Northern Conference group and pick one of the tickets for Friday’s final.
Heartland FC will square up against already qualified Sporting Lagos for their own NPL slot and a possible final day ticket as the Stephen Keshi Stadium Asaba.
