Nigeria’s D’Tigers suffered a 61-59 loss to their Kenyan counterparts on Friday, July 14 in a five to eight classification game at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda, in Angola.

Kenya raced in the first quarter 20-13 to establish a seven-point lead over Nigeria.

D’Tigers bounced back in the second quarter reducing the deficit to just two points with an 18-13 scores, going into the halftime break.

Coach Ogoh Odaudu’s side took the third quarter 13-11 to tie the scores with Kenya going to the closing stages.

Kenya however, were able to pull through with a 17-15 margin in the fourth quarter to take a two-point victory.

The AfroCan is a continental basketball competition meant for players who play for basketball clubs on the continent. It is also an avenue for new players to shine against their peers.

The competition perhaps has given D’Tigers valuable experience as they prepare for the upcoming FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament.

The Group Phase is expected to hold in Lagos, Nigeria, as the D’Tigers will have the opportunity to play in front of their home fans for the first time in a while.

The D’Tigers are in group A and will face Mali, Uganda, and Senegal as they hope to qualify for the 2024 Olympics after missing out on a spot at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
