Naija Super 8: Katsina Utd Eliminates Enyimba As Sporting Lagos Inflicts 1st Defeat On Remo

Enyimba have been eliminated from the Naija Super 8 tournament following theur 2-1 loss against Katsina United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos on Tuesday night.

Ibrahim Yahaya scored the opening goal for Katsina United in the 54 minute.

Nafizi Yahaya made no mistake as he scored from the spot just two minutes later to doubled the advantage of The Chanji Boys.

Enyimba pulled one back in the 89th minute through Fatai Abdullahi to end the game 2-1 in favour of Katsina United.

Katsina United are now level on four points with Remo Stars and Sporting Lagos in Group A standings while The Peoples’ Elephant finished bottom of the group with one point from three games.

George Finidi’s side could not record a win in their three matches in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Sporting Lagos came from a goal down to defeat Remo Stars 2-1 in an earlier Naija Super 8 Group A encounter played at the same venue.

Togolese striker Frank Mawuena gave Remo Stars the lead in the 16th minute with a perfectly headed goal.

Sporting Lagos equalized in the 27th minute through Saturday Okon to end the first half in a 1-1 draw.

Emeka Nwokeji scored the winner for Sporting Lagos in the 89th minute to give the ‘Tech Boys’ their first win of the tournament and hand Remo their first defeat.

Sporting Lagos will next face Usman Abdallah’s Katsina United side for a place in the semi-finals.
