The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Tuesday, presented a certificate of excellence to Hon. Kelechi Nworgu, in recognition of his sponsorship of the KELECHI NWORGU UNITY CUP COMPETITION which is running for Ten (10) years.
The NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusua who was represented by the Special Assistant to NFF General Secretary, Aminu Mohammed and President of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association Dr. Isa Ladan Bosso, also inducted Hon. Nworgu into the Nigeria Coaches Association as a life Patron.
Executive members of the Rivers State Football Coaches Association, under the leadership of coach Stanley Azundah Eguma, who is also the Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, accompanied the National Executives, during the presentation.
The items presented to Hon. Kelechi Nworgu include; a Certificate of Excellence, Plaque for Patron, Crested Jersey and Track suit from the Nigeria Football Federation NFF and a Medal of Honour.
Ward Five (5) emerged as champions of the tenth and final edition of the tournament, after spanking Ward Two (2) 3-0 in the final, at the Kelechi Nworgu Unity Football Stadium in Eberi, Omuma in Omuma local government area of Rivers state.
Hon. Kelechi Nworgu, who is the member representing Etche and Omuma federal constituency said that the next edition if the tournament will be expanded to include the nineteen (19) wards of Etche LGA, making it 29 wards.
The immediate past member of the Rivers state House of Assembly, promised to reconstruct the Kelechi Nworgu Unity stadium, venue of the last ten editions, to include hotels and other relevant facilities, to attract pre season matches.
He also promised to create a Grassroots team that will compete in the lower league, as a way of creating job opportunities for the youths of Omuma.
Other dignitaries that graced the event include the Honourable member representing Omuma constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Sylvernus Nwankwo, Omuma LGA chairman, Rt. Hon. Chisorom Christian Nwaiwu, the paramount ruler of Eberi-Omuma, His Royal Majesty, King Barr. Onyekachi K. Amaonwu JP, and many others.
