Nigeria, Australia Secure Round Of 16 Ticket As Falcons Face England or Denmark

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have secured qualification to the Round of 16 of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand after playing a goalless draw against Republic of Ireland on Monday.

Randy Waldrum’s ladies began slowly as the ‘Green Girls’ of Ireland dominated possession in the first half of the encounter.

Asisat Oshoala missed a chance to put Nigeria ahead in the first half but fired her effort wide.

Uchenna Kanu nodded another effort against the bar in the second half.

The nine-time Africa champions finished second in Group B but remain unbeaten in the tournament. They played goalless against Olympic champions, Canada in their opener before defeating co-host nation, Australia 3-2 on Thursday July 27.

Nigeria will face Group D winners (probably England or Denmark) in their 2023 Women’s World Cup Round of 16 encounter on Monday August 7th in Brisbane.

Meanwhile, the Maltidas of Australia trashed Olympic champions Canada 4-0 to top Group B with 6 points. The Aussies will take on the runner-up in Group D .
