NPFL Matchday 11: Yusuf Steals The Show, Alimi Moves Remo Top, Heartland Holds Shooting

Kano Pillars produced a historic performance on Matchday 11 of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League season after thrashing Gombe United 2-5 at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.

17-year-old Teenage sensation Yusuf Abdullahi’s brace gave Pillars a two-goal lead just before 15 minutes of the game.

Sadiq Shuaibu reduced the scoreline for the host to 1-2 in the 17th minute before Yusuf completed his hat trick in the 33rd minute.

Yusuf added his 4th goal of the match in the 45th minute but Ahmed Jimoh scored almost immediately for the host while Yusuf netted his 5th goal later in the game to give Pillars an emphatic 2-5 away victory.

Sikiru Alimi’s 61st minute strike, his ninth goal of the campaign, gave Remo Stars a 1-0 home victory over Plateau United and ensured the Sky Blue Stars move to the top on the NPFL table with 22 points.

Robert Mizo’s late goals in the 82 and 87 minutes saved Bayelsa United from a third home defeat of the season to hold Abia Warriors to a 2-2 draw in Yenegoa, after Samson Obi and Ibrahim Dehinde gave Abia Warriors a 2-goal lead.

Kennedy Boboye’s Heartland FC held Shooting Stars to a goalless draw in Ibadan to record their first clean sheet of the season and secure a valuable away point.

Sporting Lagos returned to winning ways as Clement Naantuam’s 13th-minute strike gave them a 1-0 win over visiting Katsina United.

In Saturday’s games, Bendel Insurance defeated Lobi Stars 1-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin while Kwara United held struggling Akwa United to a 1-1 draw in Eket.

Doma United secured a 1-0 home win against Niger Tornadoes while Enyimba FC defeated Sunshine Stars by the same scoreline in Aba.
