NPFL MatchDay 2: Pillars Pip Katsina United In Derby As Insurance, Doma Also Record Home Wins 

All three match day 2 fixtures of the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League played on Saturday were won by the home teams.

Bendel Insurance began their domestic campaign after their continental disappointment by defeating Shooting Stars 2-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

The Benin Arsenal got the opener on the eighth minute of the game after Shooting’s Gali Falke headed the ball into his own net following a sublime cross from Stanley Okorom.

Evans Ogbonda’s  powerful strike in the 78th minute secured all three points for Monday Odigie’s team against Gbenga Ogunbote’s tutored 3SC side.

Doma United secured a comfortable 2-0 home win over Bayelsa United at the Pantami Township Stadium, in Gombe.

Andrew Majalisa scored the opener in the 21st minute before Charles Terwar made it 2-0 in 58 minutes to secure their first win of the campaign.

Elsewhere, in the North-West Arewa derby, Kano Pillars dispatched arch-rivals and fellow promoted side, Katsina United 1-0 in a hard fought encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium, in Kofarmata, Kano following a 27th minute winner from Ibrahim Mustapha.

The remaining seven NPFL fixtures are scheduled for Sunday.
