NPFL: Rivers United deserved to win Heartland – Finidi

Rivers United claimed their first win of the season following a 3-1 victory over Heartland FC at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Saturday.

Rivers United’s new signing Taofeek Otaniyi scored the opener from Aniekeme Okon’s assist after three minutes.

Heartland fought back to draw level in first half stoppage time through Christian Molokwu.

The home side turned on the style after the break with Kabir Abdullahi scoring twice to hand his side’s victory.

After the match, Rivers United head coach, Finidi George says his side deserved maximum points against the Nazi Millionaires.

“It was a good game, we started with a high tempo and after that goal the tempo dropped and Heartland started playing, unfortunately, they got that goal and we were furious about it,” Finidi told journalists after the game.

“We have to ginger the boys, especially in the second half. The second half was for us; they couldn’t do much apart from one or two breaks they had; we controlled the game, and overall, we deserved to win.

“The team is practically new, so we have been working with the players tactically and technically, and they are responding.”

The Pride of Rivers will next face Lobi Stars in a Matchday three encounter on Saturday September 21st in Makurdi.
