NPFL: Rivers United Secures 2-0 Home Win Over Remo Stars

Rivers United handed a 2-0 defeat to visiting Remo Stars on Thursday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League Match Day 1 fixture.

The match was rescheduled owing to Rivers United’s continental engagement.

The Pride of Rivers were awarded a penalty on the 11th minute of the match after a Remo Stars defender handled the ball inside the box.

Forward Alex Oyowah converted from the spot on the 14th minute to give Rivers United their first league goal of the season.

Stanley Eguma’s side held on tenaciously to the slim lead until the 90th minute when former Remo Stars striker, Andy Okpe scored against his former club to give Rivers United an impressive 2-0 win.

Rivers United have now won six of their last seven NPFL games against Remo Stars.

The Port Harcourt-based club will welcome Kwara United in their next league fixture on Sunday.

Remo Stars will be away to Bayelsa United also on Sunday.
