NPFL Super Six Playoffs: Sunshine Beat Lobi 3-1 In Dead Rubber

Sunshine Stars of Akure finally secured their first win of the NPFL Super Six Playoffs with a 3-1 victory over Lobi Stars on Sunday June 11 in the first game of the final day, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.

Stephen Chukwude scored the opening goal for Sunshine in the 22nd minute after some early pressure from Lobi Stars.

Michael Olalusi made it 2-0 in the 39th minute of the game to give the Akure Gunners a comfortable lead heading into halftime.

Lobi Stars mounted more pressure on Sunshine Stars in the second half and were rewarded for their efforts in the 70th minute through a goal from Elijah Ani.

Vincent Temitope scored the third goal for Sunshine Stars in the 83rd minute to seal the victory for the Owena Whales 3-1. The goal was scored against the run of play, at a moment when the Markudi-based club was pressing for an equalizer.

With the victory, Sunshine Stars leapfrogged Lobi Stars to fifth position on the standings with five points from five matches while Lobi Stars finished the competition at the bottom of the playoffs table with two points after five matches.

However, the result had no effect on continental qualifications as both sides were already out of the running.
