Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) have resheduled the 2023 NWFL Premiership Super Six five days earlier.
The Super Six which was initially scheduled to hold from June 9 to June 16, will now hold from June 5 to June 11, 2023 in Asaba, Delta State.
The changes was made known by the Chief Operating Officer of the NWFL, Modupe Shabi, through a circular sent to clubs, following an approval from the Nigeria Football Federation.
The switch change in date also has to do with the NFF’s attempt to adjust it’s timetable to meet CAF’s deadline for the submission of countries’ representatives for the WAFU-B playoff for the CAF Women’s Champions League later this year.
The NWFL scheduled Monday June 5 for teams’ arrival and draw while the Super Six matches will begin on Tuesday June 6.
Participating teams include Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, Edo Queens, Delta Queens, Confluence Queens and Robo Queens after their qualifications from the regular season which was concluded in April 2023.
Edo Queens finished top of Group A with 25 points from 12 matches, followed by Robo Queens with 22 points in second while Confluence Queens finished third with 21 points.
Delta Queens emerged winners of Group B with 26 points from 12 matches, one above defending champions Bayelsa Queens in second position while Rivers Angels finished in third position with 20 points.
Omokwo Mercy of Delta Queens finished as the highest goal scorer of the regular season with nine goals, three ahead of Abia Angels’ duo, Agams Nkechi and Chinaza Agoh, and Robo Queens’ Folashade Ijamilusi all on six goals each.
The winner of this year’s NWFL Super Six competition will represent Nigeria in the WAFU-B zonal qualifiers for CAF Women’s Champions League.
