NWFL Super Six: Rivers Angels Fined N1m, Players Suspension For Assault

Rivers Angels have been handed a fine of one million naira and suspension of two of its players for assaulting a match official in their 0-1 loss to Bayelsa Queens on Friday June 9th at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.

The NWFL acknowledged report on Match No. 5 between Rivers Angels FC and Bayelsa Queens FC in the 2023 NWFL Super Six Competition played on Friday, 9th June, 2023 in Asaba, Delta State where two of Rivers Angels players assaulted a match official in the aforementioned match.

After thorough investigation into the incident and also reports from Match Officials confirming the unruly behavior from the two players, the Nigeria Women Football League have decided to impose the following sanctions on Rivers Angels

  1. A fine of One Million Naira (N1,000,000.00) have been imposed on Rivers Angels for contravening Article 26.1 which states that “any player or official who assaults a match official or any other person in the course of a match through physical, verbal, intimidation”.
  2. Players Jersey No. 12, Adjei Charlotte and Jersey No. 22, Hassan Suliat have been suspended respectively for the 3rd Place match between Confluence Queens FC and Rivers Angels FC for bringing the game to disrepute.

Confluence Queens will face Rivers Angels for the 3rd and 4th places on Sunday June 11th, by 10am.

While Hosts Delta Queens will do battle against defending champions Bayelsa Queens in the FINAL to determine the NWFL 2023 Champions and runner-up.

The grand finale match will be played on Sunday June 11th by 4 pm at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.

The Prize Money for the 2023 NWFL Premiership Super Six winner is N10m. The first runner up goes home with N5m while the third place team receives N3m.
