Amidst transfer interest for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, compatriot and former Inter Milan star Obafemi Martins has advised the youngster not to leave this summer.
Obafemi Martins [38] believes it will be a more cautious decision for Victor Osimhen to spend another season with Napoli before making the step up to the European giants queueing up with interest for his services.
The 42-cap Ex-Super Eagle made this disclosure when he featured on a Sports program on BRILA FM with another ex-Nigerian International turned presenter, Ifeanyi Udeze.
Martins said of Osimhen’s transfer options this summer “It depends on the club he’s going to. But I don’t want him to go to a club where he will struggle. He needs to keep the momentum going.
“To err on the side of caution, I would suggest that he stays back in Napoli at least for one more season.”
Obafemi Martins delivered that advice after a detailed review of Victor Osimhen’s achievements in the 2022/2023 season.
For the former Inter Milan striker, what Osimhen has achieved in the Italian Serie A is special, considering the challenges black players face in the country.
“Osimhen has really done well in Italy and for you to play in the Serie A and score a lot of goals, you must be special,” Martins added.
“All the major leagues in Europe are looking to sign him and he has shown everyone his qualities as a striker. He has broken Weah’s record and also my own record in the Champions League.
“We don’t even know the number of goals that he will score next season, and he can do it. And you know it’s very difficult to play in Italy as a black man. It’s a huge respect to break those records.” Obagoal said in praise of Osimhen who wears his number 9 jersey for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
