Rivers United coach Evans Ogenyi says he is worried about his team’s poor form in the ongoing 2023/2024 NPFL season.
The Pride of Rivers played out a 1-1 draw against Kano Pillars at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, dropping two points at home in a match day 24 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League, having already secured a quarter-final ticket in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Ogenyi assured fans of the club that the team will return to winning ways in their subsequent league games.
“It is just unfortunate it ended this way. In the league, no team is a pushover. We psyche our players on the importance of this match to see that we garner these three points to push our position on the log, but no team is a pushover.
“You saw the anxiety of my players, the misunderstanding between the two central defenders and goalkeeper against the run of play. I still appreciate them for this fighting spirit. At least, we dropped only two points.
“We have dropped a lot of points at home. The earlier we start picking points, the better for us because in the first three weeks, we will be playing the quarter-finals at home, and we need to gel.
“We need to start making statements on the league. It is quite painful, but I want to appeal to our fans to still be patient. We will take every match very seriously. We are also not happy, and we are going to make amends in the next game.”
