Oshoala Nominated For 2023 Women’s Ballon D’Or Award

Following her impressive season with FC Barcelona Feminine and and national engagements with Nigeria’s Super Falcons, Asisat Oshoala has been nominated for the 2023 Women’s Ballon D’Or Award.

In a release made on Wednesday evening by the European Football Union, Oshoala’s name was included in a list of 30 outstanding women players for the prestigious award.
The Super Falcons forward emerged as the top scorer of the Spanish Iberdrola league for the second consecutive season, despite struggling throughout the season with niggling injuries.

Her goals also helped the Catalan-based club to retain their domestic and European title.

The Nigerian international also lived up to the billing at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup scoring Nigeria’s third goal in a 3-2 group-stage win against co-hosts the Matildas of Australia.

The Super Falcons were eventually eliminated from the Round of 16 stage of the tournament to European champions England. The match ended in a goalless draw after 120 minutes before the Nigerian ladies bowed out to their European counterparts 4-2 on penalties.
