Osimhen Overtakes Ikechukwu Uche To Become Super Eagles 4th All-time Top Scorer

Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen has now scored 20 international goals for the Super Eagles of Nigeria after scoring a hat-trick against Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday in their final Group A encounter of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo.

The 24-year-old Nigeria striker who was recently nominated for the 2023 Ballon d’Or award has now overtaken former Nigeria winger Ikechukwu Uche on the Super Eagles’ all-time top scorer’s chart to occupy the fourth position.

Ikechukwu Uche scored 19 goals in 46 appearances for the Super Eagles and was in the 4th position of Nigeria’s all time goal scorers before Osimhen scored a hat-trick against Sao Tome, to take his tally from 17 to 20 international goals in just 27 matches for the three-time African champions.

Only Yakubu Aiyegbeni ( 21 goals), Segun Odegbami (23 goals), and late Rashidi Yekini (35 goals) have scored more international goals than Osimhen.

What is more impressive is the fact that Osimhen has scored his 20 international goals in 27 appearances, an average of 0.74 goals per game which is better than that of Nigeria’s all time leading goal scorer, late Rashidi Yekini, who scored his 37 international goals in 62 appearances, an average of 0.6 goals per game.
